ASIA/BANGLADESH - Rector of Holy Spirit Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Archdiocese of Dhaka, appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on June 1, 2009, appointed Fr. Shorot Francis Gomes, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Dhaka (Bangladesh), Rector of Holy Spirit Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Archdiocese of Dhaka.
The new Rector was born on December 12, 1965 and was ordained a priest on May 31, 1991. After attending Holy Cross High School in Bandura and Notre Dame College in Dhaka, he studied philosophy and theology at Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka, and earned a Doctorate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Academy Alfonsiana in Rome. Following his ordination, he exercise pastoral ministry at the Cathedral of Dhaka and St. Nicholas Church in Nagori (1991-1994); was Rector of Little Flower Minor Seminary in Bandura (1994-1998); Vice-Pastor of St. Nicholas Church in Nagori and Professor of Moral Theology at Holy Spirit Seminary (2003-2004); Vice-Pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Tejgaon and Professor of Moral Theology at Holy Spirit Seminary (2004-2005); since January 2005, he has served as Professor of Moral Theology and Vice-Rector at Holy Spirit Seminary (2004-2005). Among the other positions he has held: Diocesan Director of the Commission for the Laity, Director of the Theological and Pastoral Magazine of Holy Spirit Seminary, “Prodipon.” (SL) (Agenzia Fides 15/9/2009)
