AMERICA/ARGENTINA - City of Salta celebrates “El Señor y la Virgen del Milagro” that preserved the city from an earthquake

Salta (Agenzia Fides) – On September 8, feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the Cathedral of Salta, a novena was begun in honor of “El Señor y la Virgen del Milagro” (The Lord and the Virgen of the Miracle), who have been venerated as Patrons of the City since 1692, for having preserved the city from a predicted earthquake. On Sunday, September 13, feast of Our Lady of the Miracle, the Diocesan clergy and seminarians will pay special tribute to the Patrons.
The Mass at 7pm will be celebrated in rememberance of Fr. Jose Carrion, the Jesuit priest who was inspired to carry the image of “The Lord of the Miracle” in procession, to protect the people from the tragedy that had been predicted. After the celebration, there will be a penitential procession with the first crucifix of the Lord of the Miracle, which will start from the parish of St. John the Baptist, passing to the Church of St. Francis, and ending in the Cathedral.
On Monday, September 14, feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, at midnight there will be a Mass for the “Fraternity of the Miracle,” after which will begin a night of vigil and prayer. On Tuesday, September 15, Feast of the Lord of the Miracle, at 3:30 the sacred images of the two Patrons, of the Crowned Virgin of the Tears and the original cross of the Lord of the Miracle will be taken in procession with the authorities and faithful. At 6:30, there will be a renewal of the Fidelity Pact of the Church and People of Salta and their authorities. A Mass in thanksgiving will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, as a conclusion to the festivities. (GT) (Agenzia Fides 11/9/2009)
