ASIA/INDIA - Rector of Interdiocesan Propaedeutic Seminary “Kristu Jyoti Gurukul” in Diocese of Simla and Chandigarh appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on May 8, 2009, appointed Fr. Thomas Kolenchery of the Diocese of Jullundur (India), as Rector of the Interdiocesan Propaedeutic Seminary “Kristu Jyoti Gurukul” in Kauli, Diocese of Simla and Chandigarh. It takes effect June 1, 2009.
The new Rector was born on April 13, 1968 and was ordained a priest on May 8, 1996. After attending St. John Vianney Minor Seminary in Amritsar, he studied Philosophy at Most Holy Trinity Regional Major Seminary in Chogitty (Jalandhar), and Theology at St. Charles Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Nagpur, Maharastra. He earned two Masters: one in English and another in Political Science. Following his ordination, he served as Assistant Pastor and Pastor in several parishes; Assistant Chaplain and Chaplain in several religious communities; Catholic Schools Director; visiting professor and Rector of St. John Vianney Seminary in Amritsar; Editor of the Diocesan Bulletin in English, “Christward.” (SL) (Agenzia Fides 10/9/2009)
