ASIA/INDIA - Rector of Saint Francis Xavier Regional Interdiocesan Seminary in the Archdiocese of Agra appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on March 6, 2009, appointed Fr. Sebastian Arockiam, of the Diocesan Clergy of Varanasi (India), Rector of “Saint Francis Xavier” Regional Interdiocesan Seminary in the Archdiocese of Agra. The appointment takes effect June 1, 2009.
The new Rector was born on October 14, 1958 in Manapunchai (Diocese of Shivagangai, Tamil Nadu) and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Varanasi on March 25, 1990. He earned a Masters in Hindi Literature; a degree in Theology in Delhi, and a doctorate from the Pontifical University Urbanianum. Since his ordination, he has ministered as follows: Assistant Pastor, Secretary of the Bishop of Jaipur, Professor of Theology at St. Joseph's Regional Seminary of Allahabad, Rector of St. Francis Xavier Regional Philosophate of Agra, Rector of St. John's Minor Seminary.
