Leon (Agenzia Fides) – The “Suma tu voz” (literally meaning “Unite your voice”) Association was founded in 2008 in the city of Leon (Mexico), as a response to the many attacks on life that have been occurring in the nation, Rosa Maria Ordaz, member of the Association, tells Agenzia Fides. It is an independent, non-partisan, lay society that has as its principal end the defense of the value of life, the family as basic unit of society, and the rights of every individual. The association seeks to affirm and promote citizen participation in favor of dignity and rights of the person and the family, and the value of life itself. Its main goal is to use citizen participation to promote the fundamental values and principals of society and incite active participation, so as to become instruments of change and not mere spectators.
“Suma tu voz,” Rosa says, “arose as a manner of including all the citizen voices and movements that share our values, that share our vision. Our activity is aimed at showing that we are one united voice [that works] to create awareness among public and private spheres, speaking out in defense of the dignity of the person.” Rosa added that “the society comes before the State, politics is essentially a vocation of service and therefore, governors have the duty to listen to the governed.”
The association is formed by professionals, housewifes, businessmen, workers, students...all “fighting so that respect, responsibility, commitment, honesty, and service can form a part of our culture. We seek to unite ourselves in solidarity with the weakest and most in need: the unborn child, the abandoned pregnant mother, the woman who has suffered rape, the young woman in despair, with those without resources who do not have access to the information and means necessary to make decisions that can lead to a better life.”
“We are in favor of life and we are working for the respect of and the state sovereignty of Guanajuato legislation. 'Suma tu voz' is working to keep state legislation apart from federal,” Rosa concluded. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 30/7/2009)
