AFRICA/NAMIBIA - Rector of Saint Charles Lwanga Interdiocesan Seminary of the Archdiocese of Windhoek appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on January 1, 2009, appointed Fr. Benny Karuvelil of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate as Rector of the Saint Charles Lwanga Interdiocesan Seminary of the Archdiocese of Windhoek (Namibia).
The new Rector was born on October 18, 1968 and was ordained a priest on May 10, 1998. He studied philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram (DVK) in Bangalore and theology at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth (JDV) in Pune. He earned a License in Philosophy (2003) and later a Doctorate (2008) at the Catholic University of Louvain. He served as Vocations Director (1997-1998), following the ordination he served as teacher and Dean of Students at the Darsana Institute of Philosophy in Wardha, India; teacher and Dean of Students at St. Charles Lwanga Seminary of Windhoek (Namibia). He has also carried out pastoral ministry in Belgium (Louvain), the USA (Archdiocese of Boston), and Germany (Regensburg, Munich, Wurzburg).
