Friday, 12 June 2009

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – With the title: “Earthquakes Destroy, Sharing Rebuilds,” the Peruvian Bishops' Conference will launch a campaign on June 12, entitled “Compartir” (Share) 2009. This year, the Bishops are trying to promote support for the reconstruction of churches and chapels that were destroyed in the earthquake that took place on August 15, 2007, in the cities of Ica, Cañete, and Huancavelica.
The launching of this campaign will take place at 11am, with a press conference to be held in the Peruvian Bishops' Conference Auditorium. The act will presided by Bishop Lino Panizza Richero, OFM Cap of Carabayllo, Secretary General of the Peruvian Bishops' Conference.
The “Compartir” Campaign is an initiative of the Catholic Church that began in 1990 and that has a different theme each year, which is proposed by the Annual Assembly of the Peruvian Bishops. The objective is to instill in every person a permanent attitude of fraternal and community duty to “share” one's goods with their brother in need. They create a national awareness campaign and seek financial support for the projects from companies, institutions, and public and parochial collections. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 12/6/2009)
