AMERICA/MEXICO - IV Congress for the Laity on “Challenges and hopes for the families of Mexico City,” as a follow-up to the World Meeting of Families

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - This June 6-7, the Department for the Laity of the Archdiocese of Mexico City will host the IV Congress for the Laity. The theme of the Congress this year will be: “Challenges and hopes for the families of Mexico City,” as part of the fruits of the VI World Meeting of Families, which took place in early 2009, the nation's capital.
Some 500 people will gather for two days to analyze the themes related the family as missionary, its role in service of life, and its role as fundamental cell of society and community of persons.
The Congress for the Laity will also feature various specialists and ecclesial figures, including: Auxiliary Bishop Jonas Guerrero of Mexico City; Monsignor Enrique Glennie, Vicar of Pastoral Agents; Monsignor Juan Carlos Guerrero, Vicar of the Laity; Monsignor Pedro Agustin Rivera, Rector of the Old Basilica of Guadalupe; Andres y Clara Galindo, Secretaries of the Bishops' Dept. for the Family, and many others.
At the end of the event, there will be a document issued, which will serve as a guide for the laity on specific points, in an effort to improve the lives of Mexican families in a Christian perspective. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 5/6/2009)
