AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Presentation of books containing conclusive and normative texts from the Venezuelan Plenary Council

Wednesday, 3 June 2009

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) – The headquarters of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference hosted the presentation of two books that contain the conclusive and normative texts from the Venezuelan Plenary Council. Venezuelan Catholics began deliberations in 2000, in the Fifth Centenary of the Evangelization of America. After 6 years, the 16 conciliar documents with pastoral norms were finished and were promulgated on October 7, 2006 (see Fides 9/10/2006). Bishop Mariano Jose Parra Sandoval of Ciudad Guayana was one of those in charge of the presentation of these texts, for the practical use of the Catholics in the nation. “The fundamental objective of the Council is to place both the Church and the community at work in the pastoral life of communities, neighborhoods, and parishes,” he said in his speech.
One of the works, entitled: “Church on Mission, Orientation and Conciliar Norms,” was written by Bishop Ramon Ovidio Perez Morales, promoter and President of the Application Committee of the Bishops' Conference. He explained that the book “will not only serve as a resource on the Council, but it will also be useful to the entire country in the Continental Mission.” He also mentioned that “the Council has helped the Church to discover her positive and negative sides, and at the light of the Word of God and the Magisterium of the Church, determine the strategies, pastoral orientations, and norms that will help her be renewed within and renew society.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 3/6/2009)
