Pinar del Rio (Agenzia Fides) – This past May 25-26, the Preparatory Commission met in El Cobre, at the feet of the Virgin Mary, to work on planning for the second year of the three-year term of preparation for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of “La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre.” In the meeting, they discussed the formation plans and the application of Christ's “method” of teaching, the enthroning of the image of the Virgin as the opening act of the profound process of evangelization in which the family is protagonist, assisted by the Christians community, in addition to the parish, diocesan, and national celebrations, and other related themes.
“Our Lady of Charity of Cobre has been a grace from God to our people,” organizers say. “She has opened the heart and home of many people all over Cuba, who have gathered together to celebrate the faith, enthrone her image, form themselves in Jesus' method of teaching, and other pastoral activities in this three-year period of preparation.” They mention that “there is still much left to be done, and not everything needed has been obtained in a pastoral sense...as the social reality is tougher every day and yet there is a great thirst for God among our people.” Thus, organizers hope that “these activities may take place in fidelity to the Holy Spirit in this moment of our history and we hope that all Christians will have a good preparation and feast of Pentecost, so that they may manifest that Spirit of Life, which changed history and is among us in Cuba and throughout the world.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 29/5/2009)
