ASIA/PHILIPPINES - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on March 17, 2009, appointed Fr. Socrates C. Lesiona, of the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP), as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the Philippines for the five year term 2009-2014.
The new National Director was born on September 17, 1963 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol (Philippines). He carried out secondary studies and philosophy studies (1976-1984) at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran, and later studied theology (1984-1989) at Divine Word School of Theology in Tagaytay City. He was ordained a priest on April 14, 1989 in Sevilla, Bohol (Philippines). He then continued studies at the Gregorian University in Rome, earning a Licentiate in Missiology (1994-1996). After his priestly ordination, he served as Director of MSP Academics in Tagaytay City, as parish pastor, General Councilor of the MSP, Rector of the MSP Seminary in Tagytay City, General Bursar of the MSP, and MSP Moderator.
