Monday, 23 March 2009

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Beginning March 15, the 3rd Sunday of Lent, 2,778 adult catechumens from the Diocese of Hong Kong, subdivided in various groups, who will receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Communion this Easter, have been undergoing their Scrutinies. According to a report from the Kong Ko Bao, the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin, on March 15, there were three Scrutinies, carried out by the Diocesan Bishop and his Coadjutor Bishop, in the parishes of Christ the King and Saint Andrew. The homily was on “Christ is the living water,” and was an explanation to the catechumens on how “the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist are like living water for our interior life. They lead us to the Lord, leading us the practice of Jesus' teachings.” During the liturgy, the catechists presented the catechumens, declaring their desire to convert to Christ. The candidates also gave their testimonies of their journey to the faith. Among them, there is an entire family with 4 children, one handicapped person, and a husband who was at the point of filing a divorce, but has been reconciled with his family after embracing the faith. Yesterday, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, there were another 4 Scrutinies in the Parishes of Saint Andrew and Saint Francis. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 23/3/2009)
