EUROPE/POLAND - Meeting for National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Europe, with the theme: “Imitate Me.”

Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) – The city of Warsaw (Poland) is hosting a Meeting for National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Europe, March 19-23, to discuss and reflect on the new challenges of the mission, says a report sent to Agenzia Fides by Monsignor Jan Piotrowski, National Director of the PMS in Poland. The theme of the Meeting, which is taking place in the Cultural Center of the Barnabites, is “Imitate Me.” In addition to the National Directors of Europe, the event is also being attended by Fr. Vito del Prete, PIME, Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union and Fr. Timothy Lehane, SVD, Secretary General of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
The workshops begin today, with a welcoming address from Msgr. Jan Piotrowski. Among the scheduled talks are “Missions and Dialogue” (by Jan Gorski, of the University of Silesia, Katowice); “The influence of the changes in the Polish political system on the Catholic Church” (by Fr. Jarosław Różański, OMI, of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw); “Challenges in the New Evangelization of Eastern Europe” (by Msgr. Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, Archbishop of Minsk-Mohilev, Belarus); “The missions at the service of life – bioethical challenges of the Church and her responsibility in offering the gift of the Gospel of Life,” (by Archbishop Henryk Hoser, SAC, Bishop of Warsaw-Praga); “The role of the PMS in the age of the globalization of human charity” (by Fr. Krzysztof Czermak, Tarnów); “Electronic forms of communication in the Church's mission – a mission without barriers,” (by Fr. Jozef Kloch, Press Director for the Polish Bishops' Conference. The Mass will be presided on Friday, March 20 by Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, on Saturday by Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz of Warsaw in the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist, and on Sunday by Bishop Wiktor Skworc, President of the Missions Commission of the Polish Bishops' Conference.
