AMERICA/DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Archbishop of Santo Domingo hopes that the new Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel will produce many fruits of holiness and commitment in the Church

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) – The Archdiocese of Santo Domingo's Retreat House “Maria de la Altagracia” inaugurated its Perpetual Adoration Chapel on March 8. The ceremony was presided by Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, Archbishop of Santo Domingo, who was accompanied by several diocesan priests and missionaries from the Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary, as well as priests from religious orders. With the celebration of Vespers and in a procession into the Chapel, the “Maria de la Altagracia” Retreat House will now have a permanent place for prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, for all the needs of the Church in the country and in the world.
In a brief message, Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez expressed his profound joy for the fact that the House would now have Perpetual Adoration, as it has been a long-time desire of his that several parishes in the Archdiocese could be adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament non-stop, and he exhorted the parish pastors present to encourage the faithful to come and pray in the chapel, for the needs of the parish.
“I always appreciate the fact that the people of God can have the opportunity to express this love and devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist,” the Cardinal said. He later called on priests to accompany their faithful in this devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, “so that all communities can find some time each month to come and adore the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament,” recalling that “this is not a commitment to me, but to the Lord.”
The Archbishop of Santo Domingo is confident that through this devotion, many blessings will come upon the people of the Dominican Republic: holy marriages, new vocations, committed lay faithful. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 10/03/2009)
