ASIA/TAIWAN - Cardinal Paul Shan encourages Taichung diocese to promote a spirit of evangelisation among parish communities

Saturday, 8 May 2004

Taichung (Fides) -Cardinal Paul Shan, Bishop of Kaohsiung, recently illustrated a Pastoral Letter issued by the Bishops of Taiwan “Building up the Parish a community of faith, hope and love” to a group of 250 parish delegates from the diocese of Taichung.
Speaking for two hours the Cardinal encouraged the Catholics of Taichung to realise the important role every parish is called to play in the mission or evangelisation. To fulfil this duty, he said, parish communities must live the Word of God, receive the sacraments frequently and be united in prayer. These basic elements of our faith are the lymph of our spiritual health the Cardinal said, encouraging Catholics to evangelise everywhere, at home, in schools, in the city district, at work. With his simplicity Cardinal Shan won the hearts of his audience who returned home comforted and encouraged.
