Lima (Agenzia Fides) – The Archdiocese of Lima will inaugurate a new Church this Sunday, January 25, in honor of Cardinal Cipriani's 10th anniversary as Archbishop of Lima.
After 18 years of waiting, the dream of the inhabitants of Torres de Limatambo, in San Borja, will come true with the inauguration of the new church of “Nuestra Señora de la Alegría” (Our Lady of Joy) in San Borja, which will serve over 50,000 faithful in the Peruvian capital. The Church will be dedicated in a Mass presided by Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne at 7pm.
The pastor of the church, Fr. Rafael Reategui Cabrera mentioned that the new Church is a gift from the faithful of Lima to Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne in the year in which he celebrates the 10th anniversary of the beginning of his pastoral ministry as Archbishop of Lima and Primate of Peru.
The construction of the complex began five years ago, and is now a Church with two levels and sitting-room for about 1,250 persons.
One of the most impressive fruits of the constant prayer and support of the faithful of Our Lady of Joy is the chapel of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Through the Perpetual Adoration, groups of faithful from the parish will have turns for prayer in order to pray for the spiritual fruits of the Great Mission of Lima, for the Church in Peru, and the intentions of the Holy Father for the Universal Church.
