Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, on June 11, 2008, appointed Fr. Don James Thoppil of the clergy of the Diocese of Neyyattinkara, Rector of the Interdiocesan Seminary “Oriens Theological College,” of the Archdiocese of Shillong.
The new Rector was born on August 10, 1956 and was ordained a priest on December 19, 1981. He earned a Bachelor's in English Literature and a Doctorate in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He served in the following areas of the Seminary: Librarian and Activities Coordinator (1997-2000), Director of the Forum of Missiology (1997-2005); Vice-Rector in two periods (1998-2000; 2005-2008). He is now Dean of the Theology Department at the Pontifical Institute of Theology and Philosophy of Alwaye. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 27/11/2008)
