Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Over 1,600 faithful of Hong Kong participated in the Mass and celebration held for the ordination of three new priests, which took place on November 15, in Immaculate Conception Cathedral (see Fides 11/11/2008)/ According to a report from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), during the liturgy, which was concelebrated by 90 priests, the three new priests thanked all those who had accompanied them spiritually in their vocation. They also asked that the faithful continue praying for them, as they will need it for their vocation. They also called on all the young and not-so-young of Hong Kong to respond positively to the Lord's call.
Father Liao Ya Lun spoke on behalf of all three: “Today, the Lord has given three new priests to the diocese, so that an even greater number of youth respond to the call. In light of our experience, we see the need to ask that you pray not only for your children, but for the young people and the not-so-young people,” as one of the three, Fr. Tan Yong Ming, is 52 years of age. The parents and relatives of the newly-ordained priests, present among the assembly, were deeply moved. Fr. Liao's mother commented: “My son used to be so shy...and now he speaks in public, preaching the Gospel. I owe it all to the Lord! I will always try to help him to be a good priest.”
