Bangalore (Agenzia Fides) – It has been a giant change enveloping the whole world, entrusting the victims of the anti-Christian persecution in India to the Blessed Virgin Mother...and now the prayer initiative, that supported so many Christian victims of the Hindu fundamentalist attacks in Orissa and elsewhere in India, has come to a close in Bangalore. Millions of people were praying the Rosary throughout the world, thanks to the initiative of Salesian Father T.C. George, Director of the Vishwadeep Center, who says: “We wanted to place the faithful children of Mother India under the protective mantle of the Mother of God and Our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.”
The campaign began on October 6, on the vigil of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and concluded with a Mass in Bangalore on November 22. The initiative involved Catholic faithful from all over the world who, for 40 days and 40 nights, took turns praying the Rosary continuously, for peace in India.
According to Fr. George, there were 481,525 Rosaries offered by faithful in 44 nations on all the continents. The largest number of faithful participating were in India.
Archbishop Emeritus Ignatius Pinto of Bangalore said that “the Rosary is a powerful instrument in bringing peace to the family and harmony to the country,” and recalled the fact that many Popes have encouraged devotion to the Holy Rosary. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 25/11/2008)
