New Delhi (Agenzia Fides) – Reconciliation and peace go hand in hand, never tiring of doing good. This is what Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati (in the state of Assam, northeastern India) said in his recently published book, “Never Grow Tired,” whose title is inspired by Saint Paul's exhortation, “Never grow tired of doing good” (2 Thess. 3:13). The text, which is a collection of talks, exhortations, and addresses given by the Archbishop in various academic, pastoral, and liturgical settings. It is published by Pauline Publications of Mumbai and has already sold out the 2,000 copies of the first edition and will be prepared for the publication of a second edition. The anthology was prepared by Fr. Joseph Puthenpurackal, SDB, Director of the Don Bosco Institute for Cultural Studies of Shillong, in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya.
The Archbishop's words are profoundly convincing and above all, come from his vast experience as an author, a man entirely dedicated to building peace and conflict solving, for interreligious and intercultural dialogue, for preaching to the tribal populations who do not know Christ.
The Archbishop asks his flock to “do everything possible, to dedicate their entire life to doing goof, sowing peace and reconciliation.” The text reaffirms the phrase he chose as his the motto of his ministry: “Passion for Christ, passion for mankind.”
Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil is renowned as an untiring fighter for peace and has performed many acts of mediation to resolve conflicts and tensions in several parts of eastern India and has even received various awards for his work in this area. In Guwahati, he built the Peace Center, for studying the theory and practice of reconciliation, nonviolence and peace. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 12/11/2008)
