ASIA/PAKISTAN - A month of studying the Letters of Saint Paul, for the youth of Karachi

Wednesday, 22 October 2008

Karachi (Agenzia Fides) – In honor of the Year of St. Paul, the Catechetical Center of the Archdiocese of Karachi has organized various spiritual activities, for studying and pastoral ministry. They recently launched a “Month of studies on the Letters of St. Paul,” geared mainly towards the youth and students who wish to deepen in their familiarity with the spirituality and theology of the Apostle to the Gentiles. The youth will have the opportunity of getting to know the texts of the New Testament which are often “hidden” or not so frequently commentated or explained. The course is open to everyone and includes participants from all walks of life: priests, religious, and laity. The course will be based mainly on examples and references to real life, using modern multi-media and question/answer sessions.
Fr. Arthur Charles of the Archdiocese of Karachi, the course's leader and organizer, explains that the main objective is to better understand the message of the Apostle to the Christians of all times, revealed in his Letters, linking modern times with their original historical context.
The starting point is the Bible, which every Christian should hold as “the book of life” and not just another text among many that he reads once in a while and in a superficial manner. The course is not only interested in information, but in the “interior transformation” of each participant, through their familiarity with the texts that lead directly to true life and therefore, call for a continuous conversion.
Archbishop Evarist Pinto of Karachi, in his support and appreciation for the initiative, has called the youth on to becoming leaders in their Catholic community, taking an active part in the pastoral work of the Church and learning to love Sacred Scripture more every day.
