100 anniversary of the birth of Karl Rahner: Pontifical Lateran University organises Study meeting for a critical reading of Rahner’s theology

Monday, 1 March 2004

Vatican City (Fides Service) - To mark the 100 anniversary of the birth of Karl Rahner, the Pontifical Lateran University has organised for 4 and 5 March a Study Meeting to give a critical reading of Rahner’s theology. The aim is to highlight the importance for today but also the problems of Rahner’s principle theories to determine the value of his discipline as epistemology, and Trinitarian and Christological reading and their response in order to interpret instances of present-day theology. The presence of scholars of different nationalities and from various schools of theology and philosophy will make the meeting a profitable time for discussion and in-depth study. The first session will open with an introduction to the pillars of Rahner’s anthropology and three conferences will underline the concrete lines of the same. The following sessions will offer a critical examination of some of Rahner’s main works such as the use of a transcendent method in theology and consequent elaboration of a transcendental theology, Trinitarian doctrine and ecclesiology, anonymous Christianity and the inclusivist model of theology in other religions.
A round table will highlight Rahner’s thought in Italian theology, especially in the sector of Christology and Anthropology.
Speakers will include Angelo Amato, Rino Fisichella, Ignazio Sanna; Max Seckler, Karl-Heinz Neufeld, Paul Zulehner, Michael McDermott, Luis Ladaria, Edward Farrugia, Santiago Del Cura Elena. Per informazioni: Tel 06 69895676/ e-mail: eventi@pul.it
