AMERICA/CUBA - Campaign to finance 22 pastoral projects for Help for the Church in Need in Cuba comes to an end

Havana (Agenzia Fides) – The Association of Pontifical Right, “Aid to the Church in Need” has completed its campaign of awareness and solidarity on behalf of the Catholic Church in Cuba. The campaign was entitled “The Revolution of the Gospel” and began this part July 1, being held for three months. Its purpose was to create awareness among the faithful in Spain of the situation of Catholics in the Caribbean nation, as well as finance 22 projects worth a total of 208,500 Euros in 10 of the countries diocese, divided in five main areas of infrastructure, formation, communications media, subsistence, and Mass stipends for priests (see Fides 30/6/2008).
According to information sent from the Association, the campaign collected 186,005 Euros, which will go towards 22 projects of reconstruction and rehabilitation of churches, formation and catechesis for the faithful, and support for religious and priests.
Along with this campaign, Help for the Church in Need has sent 60,000 Euros in emergency aid to various Cuban dioceses, in the aftermath of Gustav and Ike. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 02/10/2008)
