Sucre (Agenzia Fides) – Bible Month began in several Latin American nations on August 31 and will conclude this September 28. It is a month that every year invites the faithful to enter into a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Word of God and that this year takes on special significance, in light of the Synod of Bishops whose theme is: “The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.” In Bolivia, the theme for Bible Month is: “Faith without works is dead.” The Bishops’ Committee for Bible and Catechesis has chosen five themes for use among Bible study groups, as well as members of other groups and movements. The themes are: Jesus Christ, Word of Life; Christian community, community of solidarity; You will know them by their works; Injustice as the cause of migration.
Archbishop Jesús Perez Rodriguez of Sucre encouraged the faithful to enter more into a knowledge and appreciation of the Word of God found in the Bible, which is like the Constitution that Catholics should live and respect. He has also asked all to pray especially during this month for the unity of Bolivia. According to the Archbishop, the themes for Bible Month will help thousands of Catholics in the Archdiocese of Sucre, to participate in the 6th Synod of the Catholic Church. “I am making a fervent and fraternal invitation to all, especially pastoral ministers, that they may take the need for Biblical work seriously, as it can lead to a greater knowledge of God’s Holy Word on the part of our people, with its own pedagogical power,” the Archbishop said. He also asked that the preparation for the Sacraments, the various meetings and courses of renewal, and other times of reflection and formation, may all serve to lead the faithful towards a deeper knowledge of the Word of the Lord and thus, to an personal encounter with Christ, through the Word of God.
