EUROPE/GERMANY - New National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed for Germany/Aachen

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on June 14, 2008, appointed Rev. Klaus Krämer, of the clergy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies for a five-year term (2008-2013).
The new National Director was born in Stuttgart on January 14, 1964. After finishing high school (1983) and military service, he began studies in Law at the University of Augsburg, Monaco and Freiburg, in 1984. Meanwhile, beginning in 1986, he studied Theology at the Universities of Freiburg and Tubingen. In March 1991, he was ordained a deacon in Suttgart and in June 1993 was ordained a priest in Neresheim. He has since ministered as follows: Assistant pastor in “Heilig Kreuz” (Holy Cross) Parish in Rottweil, until Fall 1994, when he was named by the then Bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, His Excellency Walter Kasper, Secretary of the Diocese; 1997: doctoral studies at the University of Freiburg and service as university chaplain; April 1999: appointed Pastor of the Cathedral and head of the Missions Office; since October 2004: head of Pastoral Formation; since 2006: consultant for the German Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee for the Missions; since 2007: spokesman for the Diocesan Mission Directors.
