AMERICA/TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - Appointment of Rector of the Saint John Vianney and the Ugandan Martyrs Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Port of Spain

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, on April 18, 2008 appointed Msgr. Michael Stewart Rector of the Saint John Vianney and the Ugandan Martyrs Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Archdiocese of Port of Spain.
The new Rector was born April 13, 1954 in Kingstown, Jamaica. He entered the Saint John Vianney and the Ugandan Martyrs Regional Seminary of Trinidad and Tobago in August 1979 and was ordained a priest on July 21, 1985. He studied Theology at the Catholic University of Leuven (1984-1987) and later completed studies for a Licentiate (2002-2005) and Doctorate (2005-2008) in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Since his ordination, he has ministered as follows: Assistant Pastor, Pastor, and Administrator of the Cathedral; Diocesan Vicar General and Vicar of Education; Spiritual Advisor for the Cursillos Movement and the Charismatic Movement; preacher for clergy and religious; speaker at national and international conferences.
