OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - At the start of World Youth Day 2008, Ignatian Programme of prayer and service of others for young participants

Sydney (Agenzia Fides) – From 15 to 20 July at the start of World Youth Day in Sydney Some 2,000 young people aged 18 to 30 from 26 different countries will take part in an Ignatian Programme of prayer and service of others. For the young participants the programme will be the climax of a Saint Ignatius of Loyola spiritual journey which they have following in their respective countries.
The programme consists of service experience in the field for the first week in various communities and the second week in a Sydney. On their way to Sydney in groups of 20 the young people will live with a local communities and help social assistance programmes in different areas of Australia, Indonesia, Cambodia, India e Philippines. Activities will include meeting emigrants and refugees, a pilgrimage through the Australian Bush, learning Cambodian national dances, seeking a Christian way to solve environment problems.
In the second half of the Programme the young people will take part in a retreat at Saint Ignatius College a Sydney, prayers, liturgies, fraternal sharing of experience.
