ASIA/TAIWAN - Annual retreat and “sending” for Eucharistic Ministers of the Archdiocese of Tai Pei

Wednesday, 11 June 2008

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – “Every time you distribute Communion, you should do so with the same respect and solemnity as if it were the first time because every time you distribute Communion, for the faithful, you are representative of Christ, therefore, your comportment and dress should be in conformity with this reality.” These were the words of the Archbishop of Tai Pei, His Excellency John Hung, SVD, to the 118 Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who participated in the annual retreat and “sending” rite in the Archdiocese, on May 31. Spiritual Director Fr. Paolo Consonni, also offered some advice to the Extraordinary Ministers: “it is important that you understand the sense of service to the Church, making the Eucharist the center of your own lives.” “The ‘sending rite’ is not a ceremony; it is an opportunity for each of you to learn from Jesus how to let yourselves ‘be broken’ for the needs of others.” “Distributing Communion to the sick means making them realize that the light of Jesus’ love illumines them.” After this “annual spiritual recharge,” the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist returned to their home parishes, accompanied by the Lord’s blessing and more inspired to perform this service to the Church.
