AFRICA/IVORY COAST - New Rector appointed for the Interdiocesan Major Seminary “Our Lady of the Presentation” in Katiola

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, on 2 February 2008 appointed Fr. Didier Maxime Marie Lefebvre, of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary (Eudisti), Rector of the Interdiocesan Major Seminary “Our Lady of the Presentation” in the Diocese of Katiola.
The new Rector was born January 6, 1948 in Nancy (France). Before entering the seminary, he earned his Licentiate in Social Sciences at the “Institut Catholique” in Paris. From 1969 to 1976, he attended the Saint Jean Eudes Seminary in Paris. In 1976, he earned his Diploma from the Ecole des Hauts Etudes in Sciences Sociales, and in 1981 his Doctorate in Analyse Régionale et Amènagement du Territoire from the Sorbonne in Paris. He has served as follows: a parish priest (in Ivory Coast, 1978-1980), Head of the Special Year of Spirituality (France, 1980-81), Seminary professor at Parakou and head of pastoral activities in the rural region (Benin, 1981-1990), formator for Eudisti prospective vocations and head of rural pastoral care in the Diocese of Cotonou (Benin, 1990-2000), Rector of the pre-seminarian school of M’Pouto (Ivory Coast, 2000-2003). Since November 2002, he has been the Chaplain for the “Federazione Internazionale del Movimento degli Adulti rurali cattolici” (FIMARC, the International Federation of the Catholic Rural Adults Movement) and for that reason, has been involved in activities on all the continents. Since 2003, he has served as President of Administration Council of the Spirituality and Visitor’s House of St. Jean Eudes in Atrokpocodji (Benin).(S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 6/6/2008)
