AMERICA/VENEZUELA - National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on 30 May 2008, appointed Rev. Andrea Bignotti of the Consolata Missionaries (IMC), National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Tanzania for a five year term (2008-2013).
The new National Director was born December 22, 1943 in the province of Brescia (Italy). He studied philosophy and theology at the “Istituto della Consolata” and one year at the “Federazione Intercongregazionale di Studi Teologici.” He entered his Institute on October 2, 1966 and was ordained a priest on February 27, 1972. He served as a formator on various levels of his Institute and also taught Missiology and the Eucharist at the Theological Studies Center of the Archdiocese of Barquisimeto. He has been in Venezuela since 1982, except for the time he spent in Spain (1990-1996). He returned to Venezuela in 2002. He was Superior of his delegation for two terms (1990-1996) and over the years has been very active in missionary animation activity as the head of various diocesan centers, in both Venezuela and Spain. He is currently Delegate for the Missions of the Archdiocese of Barquisimeto. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 06/06/2008)
