Tuesday, 27 May 2008

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The community of Hong Kong of the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity, known as Canossians, recently celebrated the 200th anniversary of their foundation. According to Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), over a thousand faithful took part in the celebration held in the Cathedral of Hong Kong, along with the religious sisters that have spent over 148 years there, serving in “humility in charity.” Thanks to their dedication, the Canossian community of Hong Kong has become the missionary base of the Congregation in the Far East.
The Canossian Order was founded in 1808 in Italy. It arrived in Hong Kong in 1860 and Macao in 1874. To this day, the Canossians continue to carry out their mission of service, observing the charism of their Foundress: make Jesus known and loved among the people. In Hong Kong, they are active in education, pastoral ministry, health care, and in social life. They are very appreciated by all the people. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 27/05/2008; righe 13, parole 166)
