ASIA/CHINA - First official gathering of Chinese Catholics in Italy scheduled for May 24

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - For the first time in history, the Chinese Catholic community in Italy will meet, on the afternoon of May 24, 2008, following the liturgical celebration which will be presided by Cardinal Ivan Dias in the Basilica of St. Mary Major, on the occasion of the Day of Prayer for the Church in China, called for by the Holy Father in his Letter to Chinese Catholics last year. According to information from the Italian Bishops’ Office of Immigrants, representatives from the Chinese Catholic community present throughout Italy will come to share their experiences of Christian life, in efforts to promote the evangelization of Chinese Catholics.
