ASIA/INDIA - New Rector appointed for Saint Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary in Alwaye

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, on February 8, 2008 appointed Fr. Selvister Ponnumuthan, of the clergy of the Diocese of Neyyattinkara, Rector of Saint Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary in Alwaye (India).
The new Rector was born August 10, 1956. After attending St. Vincent Minor Seminary in Trivandrum, he studied philosophy at the Major Seminary of St. Joseph in Carmelgiri (Alwaye) and theology at the Seminary of St. Joseph in Mangalapuzha. He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1981. After having been Parish Vicar and Pastor in various parishes, and Prefect of St. Vincent Seminary in Trivandrum, he continued studies in English Literature at the University of Kerala and Spirituality at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Returning to his homeland, he was given various responsibilities at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Carmelgiri (Alwaye): professor of theology, former, librarian, Vice-Rector, Dean of Theology...He is also the author of several books and articles published on a national and international level and is a member of the International Association of Catholic Missiologists.
