AFRICA/REPUBLIC OF CONGO - Rector of the Theological Interdiocesan Major Seminary “Emile Biayenda,” in Brazzaville appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on 22 February 2008, appointed Father Gervais Protais Yombo, of the clergy of the diocese of Owando, Rector of the Theological Interdiocesan Major Seminary “Emile Biayenda,” in Brazzaville.
The new Rector was born June 19, 1967 in Makoua (D.R. Congo). He was ordained a priest on July 11, 1998 in the Cathedral of Christ the King in Owando. Following primary and secondary school studies, he studied Philosophy in “Emile Biayenda” Major Seminary in Brazzaville (1989-1992) and Theology at the Pontifical Leoniano College in Anagni (Italy) (1994-1997). He later majored in Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (1997-1999). He continued German language studies and his doctorate at the School of Theology in Salzburg (Austria) (2000-2006). He has served in various parishes in Loukolela, Italy, Austria, and Brazzaville. He has also carried out pastoral activities in the summertime in England, Switzerland, Germany, and Canada. Since February 2007, he has been Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Theological Interdiocesan Major Seminary “Emile Biayenda,” in Brazzaville.
