SANTA CROCE UNIVERSITY STUDY DAY: «JOURNALISM AND CONFLICTS» - THE MEDIA FOR PEACE

Thursday, 20 November 2003

Rome (Fides Service) – «Journalism and Conflicts – what can the means of communications do to promote peace?» is the theme of a study day organised by the Social Communications Faculty of the Pontifical Santa Croce University Santa Croce on Thursday 20 November at the Card. Höffner Hall in Piazza Sant'Apollinare in Rome. “The aim of the initiative – the organisers say – is to translate into concrete terms pertinent to journalistic activity, Pope John Paul II’s Message for the 37th World Day of Peace 1 January 2004: “The means of social communications at the service of authentic peace in the light of Pacem in terris'.” The pertinence of the matter has been tragically emphasised in recent months by the international situation. But the message goes further, it is not limited to the role of the media at times of war. The complexity of the theme – they conclude – suggests an approach which keeps in mind both academic and professional perspectives". The Day will be attended by academics and journalists from various countries. Italian Father Piero Gheddo PIME missionary will give a talk on, "Conflitti dimenticati" Forgotten Wars.
