Djibouti (Agenzia Fides) - “Our request for temporary bail for Fr. Sandro, for health reasons, was accepted and we are very glad. In two or three weeks, the process should be underway. We trust that Fr. Sandro will be shown complete justice.” These were the words of Bishop Giorgio Bertin, Bishop of Djibouti, to Agenzia Fides following the release of the Vicar, Fr. Sandro Depretis, arrested on October 28, 2007 upon defamatory accusations (see Fides 14/12/2007 and 18/1/2008).
According to the diocesan weekly, “Vita Trentina,” the claims that suggest his participation in a pedophilia network, following the discovery of personal photos of him with children, appear unfounded. In fact, these same photos were offered last summer, by Fr. Sandro himself to the “Vita Trentina,” for the enrichment of their photo archive, which was lacking in photos of the Horn of Africa.
