AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Bishops of eastern Bolivia discuss urgent challenges to evangelisation and formation for priests

Santa Cruz (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of eastern Bolivia, in charge of the Vicariates of Pando, Beni, Reyes, Camiri, Ñuflo di Chávez, the diocese of San Ignacio and the archdiocese of Santa Cruz, are meeting in Santa Cruz (Bolivia), until 31 January. They will discuss among other things, reception of the Document of Aparecida and related initiatives promoted in the different ecclesiastical jurisdictions; urgent challenges to evangelisation posed by the present situation; formation of priests for this part of the country, a major pastoral concern for the Bishops.
Today's interventions will focus on “The country's new Constitution from the Christian point of view”; "Autonomous statutes and movements from the Christian point of view”; “Common lines of action to face challenges brought by these changes ”. Bishop Braulio, auxiliary of Santa Cruz, will speak on the formation of priests.
Tomorrow, 31 January, discussion will focus on “Diakonía, School of Communications and its service to the Churches in eastern Bolivia” and the juridical situation of Church institutions following new legislative norms. The meeting will close with a Concelebration of the Eucharist in the Cathedral of Santa Cruz, presided by Cardinal Julio Terrazas. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 30/1/2008; righe 15, parole 204)
