AFRICA/MALAWI - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 12 October 2007 appointed Rev. Michael Useni of the diocesan clergy of Chikwawa, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Malawi for a five year term (12 October 2007-11 December 2012).
The new National Director was born on 24 April 1969 at Muonda (Chikwawa district, Malawi). After attending Mzimu Woyera minor seminary, and went to Kachebere Seminary and St. Peter major seminary, obtaining a diploma in theology. He was ordained a priest in 16 July 1995 and has ministered as follows: Dean of studies and bursar at Mzimu Woyera minor seminary(1995/99); diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies and Bible Study coordinator (1998/2003); assistant priest (1999/2001); parish priest (since 2001); diocesan secretary for biblical pastoral (since 2002). In 2003 he obtained a certificate in the ministry of Biblical Pastoral at Centro Dei Verbum in Rome. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 29/1/2008; righe 12, parole 152)
