AMERICA/COSTA RICA - “On behalf of all Catholics and missionaries in Costa Rica we express profound and filial closeness to our beloved Pope”

San José (Agenzia Fides) - “After hearing of the deplorable events which led to the cancellation of the visit by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to La Sapienza University in Rome, we wish to express to the Successor Peter our unconditioned support”. This message was sent to Fides by the advisor to the Pontifical Mission Societies in Costa Rica, Alexander Q. Castillo. “A centre of education and culture such as La Sapienza should be renowned for its openness to dialogue and reflection in all fields of knowledge, and the qualities of the Holy Father are unquestionable in this sense. The pseudo-reasons brandished by a small group of professors and students, which led to this sad conclusion, reveal the very intolerance they claim to want to suppress, showing in themselves atrocious contradiction” said Castillo
“On behalf of all Catholics and missionaries in Costa Rica, we express to our beloved Pope profound and filial closeness and we pray the Lord may illuminate the hearts and intentions of those brothers, that he may fortify the Holy Father and help all to grow in wisdom and grace”. Alexander Q. Castillo informs us that missionaries have launched a prayer chain across Costa Rica until Sunday “which we offer as a spiritual gift for the intentions of the Pope: 'Ubi Petrus, ibi Ecclesia'”.
