AFRICA/TANZANIA - Rector appointed for Saint Charles Theological Lwanga Seminary in Dar Es Salaam

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples appointed on 12 October 2007, Rev. Vincent Peter Mrio of the diocesan clergy of Same, Rector of Saint Charles Theological Lwanga Seminary in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The new Rector was born on 13 July 1962 at Ndolwa, in the district of Same, in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. After attending St. James minor seminar in the diocese of Moshi, and a year of spirituality at the minor seminary in Chanjale, he studied philosophy and theology at Kibosho major seminary (1988-1990) and theology at St. Charles Lwanga major seminary in Dar Es Salaam (1990-1995), breaking it with a year of pastoral experience (1993-1994) at the seminary of Chanjale, diocese of Same. He was ordained a priest on 22 June 1995 for the diocese of Same. He has since ministered as follows: formator and teacher at Chanjale Seminary (1995-1999); teacher at St. Charles Lwanga seminary (1999-2000); studies at the Gregorian University in Rome (2000-2005) for a doctorate in dogmatic theology; in October 2005 he was appointed Formator and teacher of systematic and dogmatic theology at St. Charles Lwanga seminary where he was also vice rector.
