ASIA/CHINA - Bishop Giuseppe Li Shan, new Catholic Archbishop of Beijing, continues pastoral visits to parishes

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - “Prayer and witness” were the two main points in the homily given by the new Archbishop of Beijing, Archbishop Giuseppe Li Shan, during a Mass on his pastoral visit to Christ the King Parish in Ping Fang, on the feast of Christ the King. This parish situated in the suburbs of Beijing was one of the recent parish visits the Archbishop is making in his diocese. The Archbishop also visited a Home for retired priests and religious. In the past few days the Archbishop visited Holy Saviour parish in Bei Tang, St Joseph's parish in Dong Tang and outlying parishes. On 18 November at Jia Hou Yun parish the archbishop was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of 1,000 parishioners.
Archbishop Li Shan, ordained on 21 September with the approval of the Holy See, led a spiritual retreat for his clergy 26 - 29 November at the diocesan Seminary. Moreover the Archbishop invited Fr Thomas Law Kwok Fai from Hong Kong to speak on the subject “the relationship between the Bishop and his priests”. During the meeting two diocesan vicars and a chancellor were appointed. The archdiocese of Beijing has over 60,000 Catholics assisted by 51 priests and there are dozens of churches and chapels.
