Thursday, 11 October 2007

Loja (Agenzia Fides) - About 500 media operators from all over the world will gather in Loja Ecuador 15 - 19 October to discuss and answer certain basic questions in the field of communications: How to guarantee every one and not just a few the right to communications? What strategies are needed to promote participation and mobilisation of all citizens? What values should the media promote? How can communications help the Church in its prophetic mission to denounce the present situation and announce a new social and economic order?
This 3rd Communications Congress for Latin America and Caribbean organised by Loja Technical University and the Catholic Communications Organisation of Latin America and Caribbean, to be held 15-19 in Ecuador, aims to assess and confirm activity in these two years to implement the findings of the two previous Congresses in Curitiba, Brazil and in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and to identity strategies of communication to foster participation and mobilisation of all citizens to build a society of more justice and brotherhood, rich in human and Christian values. The theme of the Congress is "Communications, citizenship and values”. Speakers will include 50 experts from many different countries.
Three basic themes will be treated from different angles: "Media and Citizenship": to identify concrete proposals for more participated communications to promote human development and respect for values. "Strategies for City Communication”: discuss important experiences on the continent and possible application to other social realities. "Communications Rights in an Information Society": social, cultural and juridical changes to further understanding of communications as a fundamental factor for human development. In the margins of the Congress there will be a Meeting for Young Communicators of the Latin America and Caribbean Network. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 11/10/2007; righe 25, parole 305)
