AMERICA/PANAMA - 15% of the world's population suffers from depression, an indisposition which is becoming a social evil in Panama

Panama (Agenzia Fides) - During Sunday Mass Fr José Domingo Ulloa said depression had become a social evil in Panama.
He said depression leads many to assume to dangerous attitudes putting their own lives and those of others at risk with homicide and suicide.
The priest urged to people to seek God above all things, since He is the only one who can truly heal all suffering.
The director of the Panama National Mental Health Institute Juana Herrera, said depression affects 15% of the world population and can strike at any moment.
The World Health Organisation and the PanAmerican Health Organisation say that by the year 2010 - 2020 depression could be one of the principal causes for poor performance of individuals.
