Thursday, 4 October 2007

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - A “Family missionary relay race” will be one of the main initiatives organised for Mission Sunday on 21 October by the Kow Loog deanery in Hong Kong. According to Kong Ko Bao diocesan bulletin PIME missionary Fr Giorgio Pasini, in charge of the deanery explained that “the family has been chosen to be the main runner in the race to respond to the 'Year of the Family' launched in the Catholic diocese of Hong Kong. The race through the deanery will start from St James parish and finish at the parish of Saint Joseph touching every parish. Along the route members of Catholic Associations, parish groups, church Movements, religious institutes will distribute evangelisation leaflets and choirs will encourage the runners with songs and prayers”. The idea of a mission relay race was inspired by the passing of the Olympic Torch.
Another initiative will be an open air party in the deanery football field where Catholic schools, Caritas and parishes will have stands with mission information and material. “The diocese decided to entrust our deanery with the task of animating World Mission Sunday and our people have rallied enthusiastically because we agreed that the best way to live Mission Sunday is to bring it out into the open to share the Good News with our friends and neighbours. This initiative will also demonstrate the Christian understanding of the family" Fr. Pasini said. Besides Kow Loog, other deaneries are busy preparing Mission Sunday initiatives including meetings for catechists, ceremonies for the sending of missionaries and special mission prayer vigils.
