Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Among the various articles in the September-October 2007 issue of "Africa" magazine published by the White Fathers, we mention:
- During the ferocious years of civil war they were forced to fight. Today former child soldiers in Liberia live in a cemetery in the capital, where they kill themselves with drugs.
- In the past 25 years the lakes of Nyos and Monoun in Cameroon, “exploded” killing almost 2,000 people. The cause was accumulated gas under the water. Lake Kivu, between Rwanda and Congo, could also cause a disaster. Scientists are working to prevent a catastrophe.
- The web is changing Africa's way of communicating: connection is slow but the net is spreading at an amazing rate and broad band will soon be here. An epochal event for a continent with such a great desire to communicate.
- Living and dreaming in Kibera: the unexplored face of an African slum. Kibera slum in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is a symbol of poverty and desperation and yet its inhabitants are musicians, painters, acrobats, successful athletes...
