EUROPE/SPAIN - New Chair of Missiology at Madrid's San Dámaso Theology Faculty in entrusted to National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - The San Dámaso Theology Faculty in Madrid has instituted a Chair of Missiology to be inaugurated for the coming academic year 2007-2008. The Grand Chancellor of the Faculty, Cardinal Antonio M. Rouco Varela Archbishop of Madrid has appointed Archbishop Francisco Pérez Gonzalez national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Spain, titular of the Chair for a three year term.
The Chair was instituted at the request of the National Pontifical Mission Societies Office in agreement with the Spanish Bishops' Commission for Missions and Co-operation among Churches, to promote formation of missionaries and the study of the various questions involved in the missionary activity of the Church, while keeping in mind new theological, cultural and social issues which arise in the different fields of evangelisation.
