AFRICA/BURUNDI - New Rector appointed for Bujumbura Major Inter-diocesan Seminary for Philosophy

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) -Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 9 March 2007, appointed Mgr Gabriel Baregensabe, of the clergy of teh archdiocese of Bujumbura, Rector of Bujumbura Major Inter-diocesan Seminary for Philosophy.
The new Rector was born on 12 April 1943 at Bukeye. He attended the minor seminaries of Mureke (1958/59) and Mugera (1959/1963) and then went on to Bujumbura major seminary (1965/1967). He studied philosophy and theology in Rome (1967/1974) at the Pontifical Urban University. He was ordained a priest on 6 January 1973 by Pope Paul VI. Since then he has ministered as follows: assistant priest at Munaira (1974/1975) and at the cathedral (1975/1976); professor at the major seminary (1976/1981); Vicar general at Bujumbura (1980/2004); Rector of Kanyosha Seminary (1984/1986); parish priest at the cathedral (1986/1993); rector of Burasira major seminary (1993/1994); CECAB secretary general (1994/2005); National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Burundi (1992/2004).
