Hyderabad (Agenzia Fides) - 25% of children in the age group between 0 and 5 in India die from causes related to diarrhea. For millions of people in the Asian country, the lack of water is a constant challenge. Two-thirds of India's population does not have adequate hygienique health facilities. The situation is particularly alarming for the spread of diarrheal diseases resulting from poor hygiene. In the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh there is a shortage of latrines, and more than 665 million Indian inhabitants use open sewers or fields. According to the organizations Partners India and WASH, about 1500 children die every day in the country due to preventable diseases such as cholera and typhoid, which are contracted by contact with feces. To address the emergency, campaigns are promoted in the Indian state where people are taught how to use drinking water, wash hands and separate waste.
