EUROPE/ITALY - Rosminian Sisters of Providence conclude General Chapter awaiting with joy the Beatification of their Founder on 18 November

Roma (Agenzia Fides) - Today is the closing day of the 10th General Chapter of the Rosminian Sisters of Providence which has been held in Rome on the theme “Entrusted to Providence, arise and walk”. The chapter confirmed as superior general Mother Carla Cattoretti, and elected new counsellors: Sr Maria Bruna Ferretti, Vicaria; Sr Mary Antonietta Toomey, counsellor; Sr Maria Mercede Manza, counsellor andsecretary; Sr Chiara Rusteghini, counsellor and bursar.
The Congregation of apostolic life was established in 1832 as the Sisters of Providence, later called Rosminian after their founder, Fr Antonio Rosmini (1797-1855), who cared for the first community of young women anxious to consecrate themselves to God but in need a stable guidance. They found in him a father, who regenerated them spiritually, uniting them around an ideal of life, founded on trust in Providence, the grace of Jesus Christ, docility to his divine will, and on love of God and neighbour.
Today there are 325 Rosminian Sisters of Providence in various countries: Italy, Ireland, United Kingdom, Tanzania, Venezuela, Colombia, India involved in teaching, helping with pastoral work in parishes, caring for the elderly and the sick and also prison ministry. Their apostolate is to make known Jesus and his Gospel.
On June 1 2007 Pope Benedict XVI gave permission to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to promulgate the Decree with regard to the miraculous healing of Sr Ludovica Noè attributed to the intercession del Venerable Servant of God Antonio Rosmini, priest and founder of the Institute of Charity and the Sisters of Providence.
