VATICAN - Populorum Progressio Foundation Council of administration meeting

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The members of the Council of Administration of the Populorum Progressio Foundation at the service of indigenous peoples, Afro-Americans, poor mixed race peasants in Latin America, will meet in the Vatican 12 to 14 June for the annual session to examine upcoming projects. A Holy See press office statement said that since 1992 the Foundation has supported over 2,000 projects for a total sum of over 20,000,000US dollars. This year's meeting will discuss over 220 programmes to be funded with the available monies, about US$ 1,800,000. This is another way in which the charity of the Church reaches out to people most in need of infrastructures for poor communities, support through the promotion of the production of goods, integral education and formation of children and young people and health care. The work of the Foundation is effective thanks to the collaboration of local Catholic communities and missionaries, its administration expenses are minimum. This autonomous Foundation is presided by the President of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, Archbishop Paul J. Cordes.
